Welcome

Welcome to the web page of the Compton Learning Center. We are very proud to be a part of this wonderful school’s rich history. The Compton Learning Center was originally named after James W. Lathrop who was recognized as the “Father of the Public School System in Ohio.”  Later, the name was changed to the Paralee Watkins Compton Learning Center to honor Mrs. Paralee Watkins Compton. Mrs. Compton served in many leadership and administrative roles with the Canton City Schools. Mrs. Compton was the first female and the first African American to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Canton City Schools.

The staff members at Compton are second to none. Because of the hard work and dedication of the staff and students at Compton, our programs have successfully helped countless young people achieve the goal of earning a high school diploma. Our programs include Choices High School, the Connections Middle School Academy, the Digital Academy, the Graduation Academy, Passages High School, and the Outpost. All of our programs are very proud of the great effort they make to help young people succeed in school and in life.

The Compton Learning Center’s goal is to be on the cutting edge of quality educational innovation, in order to produce high achievement and the best program for our students. The curriculum, based on state academic content standards, was developed with the philosophy that all students can learn and deserve equal access to a quality education.

At Compton we believe that our success is based on our continued partnership between our staff, students, parents, and the community.

We hope you find this web site informational in learning more about Compton.

Sincerely,

Mr. Tim Henderson, Principal
